Engineered Hardwood Provides the Same Great Look Solid Hardwood Does

Hardwood has always been one of the most sought after materials for flooring. There are two types of hardwoods available to choose from: solid and engineered. Both come in a large variety of colors, textures, and finishes. Not only are they both versatile and looks great, but it also adds a lot of resale value to your home; so it’s no wonder hardwood flooring is so popular.

Although engineered hardwood is more water resistant than solid hardwood, it is not waterproof. A large-scale spill, if not cleaned up quickly or if seeped through the joints, will cause the engineered hardwood to expand and eventually start to warp. To help prevent water damage, our engineered hardwoods have waxed edges to keep water from slipping through the seams. But the waxed edges are also beneficial in preventing the floor planks from squeaking.

Unlike solid hardwood floors, engineered hardwood floors consist of 7-layers of plywood and 2- layers of wood on the top. These properties of engineered wood is what makes engineered more resistant to humidity, which minimizes the amount of expansion.

Just like solid hardwood floors, engineered hardwood floors are available in many styles, colors, textures, and finishes. They are commonly constructed with oak and maple. Engineered hardwood can also be made with woods from exotic trees which gives a different look of unique grain patterns.

In case of any damage repairs or a decision to change the colour of the floors, instead of replacing the wood, engineered hardwood can actually be sanded down and refinished.

But it is More Resistant to Humidity and Moisture, Making it the Perfect Flooring Material.

Hardwood floors have many advantages, but perhaps one of the most prominent ones is the versatility of where it can be installed. Unlike hardwood flooring, a “floating” engineered floor can be installed at any grade level and has an easy to install click and lock system.
